September 14, 2008 - We have survived Hurricane Ike very well ! Thank you for all of your well wishes. However, our office building and many of our homes do not have electric power for the foreseeable future. Therefore, we are going to relocate the office on Monday, Sept 15. I expect this to take most of the day.

Our office phone lines will be down until the office power is re-established, hopefully sometime this week. If you have any immediate needs, please call Pam McGuire at 281-701-6179.

We will be monitoring our normal email addresses, support@winsim.com, admin@winsim.com, sales@winsim.com and lmc@winsim.com. We will try to serve your needs as quickly as possible given the circumstances.

If both API Enthalpy and ASME enthalpy commands are present then all components except water will be calculated with a -200 F saturated liquid base, water will be calculated at 32 F saturated liquid base. The default enthalpy and entropy base continues to be 32 F using ideal gas.
  • Enhanced the phase envelope calculations by allowing pressures closer to the critical point. Also added a default pressure range from 50 psia to 5000 psia by 50 psia if no pressures are specified.
  • Corrected the allowable pressure drop printed on the heat exchanger ratings sheet to have the total value instead of the incremental delta pressure displayed before
  • Miscellaneous small enhancements and fixes (see release notes )

August 5, 2003 - We have a second version 9.00 of DESIGN II for Windows that we consider worthy of public BETA testing. The install file is at download 900.

Please do not use this version for calculations yet as there are still some minor benchmark issues. Please do try out the new user interface which is very visually similar to the previous version. We are very interested in your comments and experiences.

The version is labeled 8.97 though the release version will be 9.00. The password for this version is still the same as version 8.5x but the 9.00 version will have a new password.

Please install V8.97 in a dedicated directory/folder such as c:\DIIW897 and create a separate shortcut for the same (password for V8.54 will work for beta V8.97 also). Do not install it to replace V8.54. However, you sure can run ongoing work with V8.54 per your current settings and use V8.97 as a test platform only. As per our note before, please do not use V8.97 for regular calculations yet, as there are still some minor benchmark issues.

The major changes are:

  • Merger of the two user interface programs into one user interface program resulting in a much more robust and faster interface that is not memory limited.
  • Addition of Undo and Redo to the user interface.
  • Conversion of the general two phase plus free water flash into a true three phase flash for all equipment modules.

October 23, 2002 - We will be moving our software development environment to the latest version of Microsoft's Visual C++ compiler in the near future. Visual C++ does not support building applications that can execute on Windows 95 anymore. You can see more information about Microsoft's recommendations for Windows 95 users at http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/ .

Therefore, a future version of DESIGN II for Windows will not support executing on Windows 95. If you are still using Windows 95, please let us know so that we can take appropriate measures.

Please note that we advocate the usage of Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional or Microsoft Windows XP Professional. Both operating systems are very stable working environments and provide an excellent base to run DESIGN II for Windows on.

Microsoft dropped support for Windows 95 on December 31, 2001. Microsoft will be dropping support for Windows 98 and NT4 on June 30, 2003. You can read more about Microsoft future plans for Windows operating systems at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/lifecycle.mspx .
